Thank you Lori. This blogging community is a valuable part of my social life in a world where noise is replacing considered communication. Best wishes to everyone for 2026

David, I am finding that true as well. I was slow to learn this, but I am coming around to the notion that we can truly connect with one another in a meaningful way through our writing, whether or not we ever meet in person. I should have known–having been an avid reader all my life. In the beginning, I think that the online aspect of blogging intimidated me and seemed artificial. It’s probably due to my age and personal preferences that, overall, I view technology with a mixture of dread, fear and frustration. Blogging has helped me get through some of that discomfort. Thank you for your best wishes!

I can relate to your journey, Lori. While my career focus has been IT, I have always enjoyed travelling and taking photographs, which led me to an unplanned freelance activity writing travel articles for a New Zealand 4WD magazine about 15 years ago. I just kept doing it because they seemed to like what I was doing, and it was nice to get some money back for doing trips I would do anyway. Not long after I retired 18 months ago, the magazine finally folded, ending that creative outlet (and the money), so I got into bogging on my travel trips instead. I found that the freedom to say what I wanted to say without having an editor monitoring what I did, and changing it sometime, was liberating. I also found that the more sites I subscribed to, the more I wanted to communicate with the writers, either in the comments or by writing my own blog to express my take on something. Taking the step to start widening the scope of my blog has been incredibly empowering. I am looking forward to your next post.
